POSITION SUMMARY


Responsible for issuing insurance claims and patient statements that accurately reflect the status of the patient account. Determines and assigns the appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes for record maintenance and billing purposes. Provides quality customer service to all pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Determines and assigns the appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes for record maintenance and billing purposes
  • Completes information needed, such as file organization and chart completion, to bill on schedule according to ASC Billing and Collections policy
  • Keeps familiar with and follows billing requirements and changes in order to ensure insurance companies requirements are met
  • Maintains updates and modifications of codebooks as published
  • Attends ASC meetings and in-service educational opportunities as required. 16-20 credit hours required a year to obtain and maintain license
  • Participates in activities that improve the quality of overall ASC operations, including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies
  • Participates in loss prevention by protecting company assets and maintaining a safe environment
  • Regular and predictable attendance

  • Performs all other duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:                              High School graduate or GED required.

Experience:                             3 years of experience in surgery center coding; minimum of 2 years of experience in ICD-10 and CPT coding required. Working knowledge of medical terminology.

Computer Skills:                      Must be computer literate. Basic computer skills required.

Certifications/Licenses:       AAPC Certified Professional Coder certification required and must be maintained.

Work is performed in a healthcare and office environment. The noise level is usually moderate. Must understand the risks involved in working with or around blood borne and airborne pathogens. Must maintain a safe work environment in compliance with all standards, rules and regulations under the OSHA act. Must adapt to schedule changes as needed.
