Operating Room Technician


Operating Room Technician

No Nights, No Weekends, No Call, No Holidays!
  • POSITION PURPOSE: 
    • Assists with the surgical care of the patient in the operating room. Duties include, but are not exclusive of stocking, pulling cases for the next day, pulling instruments, cleaning OR after cases, replenishing and preparation of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. Functions as a member of the surgical team by assisting and anticipating needs of the surgeon. Maintains current education in aseptic technique, routine operating room procedures, and all other duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Scrub person functions with working knowledge of aseptic technique and AORN Standards.
    • Checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, sterile indicator if present, and expiration dates.
    • Maintains sterile integrity of all items and fluids introduced onto the field.
    • Monitors sterile field for events that may contaminate field and corrective action initiated.
    • When moving within or around a sterile field does so in a manner to maintain the integrity of the sterile field.
    • Prior to use, all equipment is visually checked for fraying of cords and plugs or other damage.
    • When turning on machine, confirms self test pattern as necessary.
    • Anticipates need for equipment and supplies as evidenced by no delays in procedures.
    • Knows the order in use of material and supplies.
    • Reports changes in temperature of room to appropriate person.
    • Perceptive to patient’s sensory environment.
    • Monitors, evaluates and revised preference cards.
    • Contributes to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care with in the scope of practice.
    • Maintains flexibility and appropriate response to changes in priorities, established plans, goals or time frames.
    • Supports the decisions and actions of the Manager or Charge Nurse. Respects others.
    • Participates in departmental QI program including confidential occurrence reporting.
    • Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Experience:
      • Preferred, one year of Operating Room experience working as an OR technician in a hospital setting.
    • License(s):
      • Active within the State of Colorado Surgical Technologist Registry
    • Certification(s):
      • Certification from ASTI (Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc.) preferred.
        Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association.
    • Computer / Typing:
      • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
    • Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

About the Position

As an OR Nurse, you will work alongside and assist doctors, surgeons, and other members of the surgical team to ensure patients receive the best possible care and outcome. Due to the intense nature of surgical procedures, an Operating Room Nurse must be a quick thinker and be able to remain calm under pressure.
At The Surgery Center, an OR Nurse may potentially take on the duties involved with Circulating or Scrubbing and will need to maintain continuous nursing vigilance throughout the procedure. As an Operating Room RN, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology alongside world-class orthopedic surgeons and a dedicated team of surgical nurses in state-of-the-art facilities. Many of the RNs at VVSC are able to both scrub and circulate; we offer scrub training to qualified candidates.

We are supportive of your education and progress toward BSN as well as your CNOR certification.

Department of Social Services Liaison


DSS Liaison
 
The DSS Liaison is the first point of contact for Department of Social Services (DSS) agencies to help provide support and resources for individuals who are at risk with protective services. High-quality customer service and be a conduit between Client and the local DSS agency to help promote collaboration and problem-solving. Consultation to social workers for those individuals who are involved with CPS/APS and In-Home Services and participate in Child and Family Team Meetings. Track issues and trends within the assigned DSS county agency and ensure urgent situations are escalated to Leadership in a timely manner.
Essential Functions
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Use a Whole Person treatment model to ensure services for the individual are coordinated across our service array and with other systems.
  • Receive member referrals from a variety of sources and assesses member needs based on clinical evaluation and best practice methods.  Completes case reviews to inform new plan development prior to referral to care coordination or care management
  • Communicate to key providers and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and clinical rounds to ensure appropriate treatment planning. 
  • Participate in Child and Family Teams, Care Review Teams, and/or treatment team meetings in collaboration with DSS, DJJ, City and County school system, and other community stakeholders as appropriate
  • Identify gaps in services and intervene to ensure the member receives appropriate care including evaluation treatment plan goals for progression and completion
  • Attend pre-custody and post-custody meeting an “open door” policy for DSS team members
  • Assist with making referrals and navigating the provider network for children not in care
  • Maintain contact list for leadership and direct line staff at respective DSS offices
  • Participate in Child and Family Teams (CFT) that meet referral criteria for CWP involvement
  • Make care management referrals + support care management teams with communication
  • Distribute monthly reports to DSS leadership and staff from BH Ops and Network re. new services, expansion, etc.
  • Refer children or adults to provider agencies for assessments
  • Complete Standardized screening tool to assess needs and determine risk stratification
  • Manage reporting, coordination, and monitoring activities, to include completion and submission of all relevant internal and external approved reports and adherence to established timelines and template usage.
  • Make verifiable efforts for services and supports to be delivered in the community within which the youth and family live, using the least restrictive settings possible to preserve community and family connections and manage costs.
  • Provide CWP training and technical assistance as needed to internal and external stakeholders including providers and DSS Staff and acts as an advocate to ensure inter/intra agency collaboration to meet the needs of youth, adult wards and their families.
  • Collaborative partner in identifying and addressing system barriers particularly with complex placements, while exemplifying a positive solution focused approach.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Consistently adheres to established protocols and timelines inclusive of documentation, quality guidelines, and established NCQA expectations.
  • Ability to complete ongoing professional development activities (at least 1 every other month) with DSS teams
  • Familiar with community resources for children & adults (Medicaid services + additional services)
  • Knowledge of treatment services and supports within the community as well as promote prevention for at-risk individuals entering DSS custody.
  • Knowledge of the IT applications used for Care Coordination services as well as remain compliant with quality guidelines and expectations set by the organization.
  • Solid understanding of the organization's Care Coordination service offerings
  • Depth of clinical competencies related to behavioral health care coordination; physical health is a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and highly effective communication ability in both written and oral form
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to accomplish company goals and to identify and resolve problems
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft suite applications (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and the internet
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change and improvement of processes
  • Ability to assess personal strengths/needs and identify needed training to promote own professional development
  • Ability to exemplify a positive, solution-focused attitude and to promote same in others
  • High level of diplomacy and discretion is required to effectively negotiate and resolve issues with minimal assistance
  • Ability to make prompt independent and clinically ethical decisions based upon relevant facts
  • Problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are essential to balance the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Understanding of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (current version)
  • Considerable knowledge of the Mental Health/Substance Use Disorder service array provided through the network of providers with additional knowledge in Medicaid B, C waivers and NC DMA Clinical Coverage Policies. Intellectual/developmental disability experience and/or knowledge a plus
  • Detail-oriented, able to organize multiple tasks and priorities and to effectively manage projects from start to finish.
Education and Work Experience
Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in a Human Services field (such as Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.)
  • Two years of post-degree experience with the population served.
